Emcadisa, which stands for Empoderar Capacidades Diferentes (empowering differently-abled), is a key component of Sonrisas Felices. Emcadisa is a small business with two parts, a restaurant called Nicafé and a plant nursery called Plantafé. We operate as one team, Somos Uno!
Plantafé offers a wide variety of plants, trees, pots, soil/organic compost, and provides landscaping and garden design services for businesses and residences in San Juan del Sur!
Plantafé employs deaf and other differently-abled people. At Plantafé, every corner is a reminder that there is always room to bloom. Plants teach us to be patient, to grow at our own pace. We embrace the same nurturing philosophy with our staff, eager to see them flourish and, when they are ready, to move on to other vistas. That is our ultimate marker of success; when a staff member finds work elsewhere, enabling us to hire the next person who desperately needs an opportunity.
In this way it is our intent to be a beacon of excellence in the community about how to build an inclusive environment; training other local businesses to hire differently-abled workers, and serving as an incubator for new enterprise.
